Our mission: THE  PRESERVATION AND  CONSERVATION OF  THE  WILDLIFE AND  WETLANDS ALONG  THE  SCENIC  SCHUYLKILL  RIVER  IN  NORTHERN  BERKS  AND  SOUTHERN  SCHUYLKILL  COUNTIES.

For years, the area around the Kernsville Dam has been enjoyed by the residents of Berks and Schuylkill counties.  The combination of mountain and river produced an area unique in its diversity of both wildlife and outdoor recreational potential.  In 2001, this diversity was threatened by development.  That threat helped bring together a group of concerned citizens to form Blue Mountain Wildlife, Inc.

Blue Mountain Wildlife Incorporated seeks to encourage those who have discovered the treasures of this area to join with us in an effort to maintain and improve it.  We also seek to introduce the area to those who might enjoy its splendors.  Blue Mountain Wildlife, Inc., is cultivating strong relationships with other organizations, both public and private, to help us in our goal of preserving this area for ourselves and for future generations.

Blue Mountain Wildlife Incorporated is not just about the preservation of one area.  We have become the stewards of the Hamburg-to-Port Clinton portion of the Bartram Trail, a walking and bicycle trail that will connect Philadelphia to the Coal Region.  We sponsor educational programs to enlighten both young and old as to the wild treasures of the region.  And we aid other like-minded individuals and groups in the region to preserve, protect and maintain our diminishing wild areas.

We invite you to join with us.

Get Involved!

Blue Mountain Wildlife needs your help!  If we are to keep these treasures from disappearing, we need the support of people like you.  Fortunately, there are many ways you can help:

You can become a member.  A strong and healthy membership means our voices and message can be heard by community leaders.  Members are updated on our efforts with our quarterly newsletter.  They are invited to participate in all Blue Mountain Wildlife events, as well as many events held by associated groups and organizations.   An annual adult membership costs only $7.00.  Annual memberships for Students (kids under 18) and Seniors (adults 65 and over) cost only $5.00.  Annual Family memberships (which include all members of the immediate family) are a great deal at only $20.00.  And annual Corporate memberships are available for only $100.00.  Corporate members receive a business card-sized ad space in each Blue Mountain Wildlife Newsletter and a link on this website.  We also offer a Lifetime Membership for only $250.00.  These memberships include a tasteful gold-plated pin that you can wear and display with pride. Click here to download an application.

You can donate to the cause.  If you like what we do but just don't have the time, donate.  We always need money to make things happen and donations are very much appreciated.  For larger donations, endowments or memorials, please contact us and we'll gladly work with you so that your wishes may become reality and benefit all of the visitors to the Kerny.

You can become a volunteer.  Blue Mountain Wildlife is currently working on several projects, all of which depend on volunteers.  There are big projects--like maintaining the Bartram Trail and Therman Madeira Switchback Trail through the Kernsville Dam Recreation Area, construction of outdoor classrooms and a boat launch, and improving the road and parking areas.   There are the fundraisers—like the Dine & Dash Burgers & Trail Race—that help us raise money to pay for everything.  There are also the day-to-day activities that are so important to keeping the organization on track and moving forward-trash removal and maintenance, newsletter and website publishing, fundraising, membership, and community relations.  If you have a skill, we can find a use for it.

You can become a business partner.  We are looking for corporate and business sponsors willing to help their community.  You can help sponsor an event or make a donation of labor, equipment or materials to our many projects.  We appreciate our business partners and ensure they are properly recognized for their contributions.

You can support our events.  Blue Mountain Wildlife holds or takes part in many local events throughout the year.  Come out to our Earth Day Clean-Up, have fun by participating in the Dine & Dash Burgers & Trail Race or just drop by our stand at the Taste of Hamburger Festival.  In doing so, you show your support for our organization and the local community.
